Event
The Spring Study Days is a yearly event that gathers clergy and lay leaders from around the diocese together for a period of learning. This year, for the first time, the event will be open to participants outside the diocese.
Presenters
Father Jan Michael Joncas
Father Joncas, a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN, is the artist in residence and research fellow of the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of Saint Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he is also an associate professor of Catholic studies and theology. In addition to liturgical music, he has expertise in the history and theology of worship and theological aesthetics.
A prolific liturgical composer and author, he has composed over 20 collections of liturgical music and has written five books: The Catechism of the Catholic Church on Liturgy and Sacraments (Resource Publications, 1995), Preaching the Rite of Christian Initiations (Liturgy Training Publications, 1994), and From Sacred Song to Ritual Music: Twentieth-Century Understandings of Roman Catholic Worship Music (Liturgical Press, 1997), The Order of Mass: A Roman Missal Study Edition and Workbook (Liturgy Training Publications, 2011) and Within Our Hearts Be Born. The Michael Joncas Hymnary: Advent and Christmas (Oregon Catholic Press, 2013), in addition to over 200 articles and reviews in journals such as Worship, Questions Liturgiques and Ecclesia Orans. He is a regular contributor to the Pray Tell blog. His best-known hymns, including “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Take and Eat,” are sung in Catholic parishes across the United States.
Father Joncas studied at the University of Saint Thomas, the University of Notre Dame, and the Pontificio Istituto Liturgico of Ateneo Sant’Anselmo.
Vicki Klima
Vicki directs and supervises the day to day overall operations of Pax Christi Catholic Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. She provides leadership for the development and implementation of all ministries, processes, and policies to effectively achieve Pax Christi's vision. For twenty years, Vicki served as director of the Worship Center for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. In this position, she prepared and coordinated archdiocesan liturgies, advised parishes on worship topics, and gave workshops on numerous liturgical areas including ministries, rituals books, environment and art, and the history and meaning of Catholic worship. She coordinated the production of Lord, Teach Us to Pray, a video series on the changes in the new Roman Missal published by Liturgical Press in Collegeville, MN. Vicki holds a degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a Master’s Degree in Liturgy from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.
