Tasnim McCormick Benhalim is Founder and Chief Learning Officer of Diversity Wealth, providing consultation services to build trust and communication across diverse populations. A long-time member of The Thanksgiving Square Interfaith Council, she co-founded the Islamic Art Revival Series, using art to build bridges across generations and cultures. Tasnim is a convert to Islam and a 6th generation Texan whose ancestors go back to the 1840's in a small central Texas town called Mahomet.
The panelists will address two questions from their respective faith perspectives:
1. “How does your faith help you transmit your core values to the next generations?”
2. “How do you address the contemporary challenges for transmitting these core values?”
The 2nd Monday Series, a program created in 2009 to offer 10 annual interfaith lectures, is now being shaped as a multi-faith community and has a new name: The 2nd Community. The vision is to create a community of individuals of all ages representing the rich religious diversity of North Texas with the objective of being able to share faith stories “freely and fearlessly.” The ultimate purpose is to provide an opportunity to achieve a more accurate and respectful understanding of the beliefs and practices of others and, in so doing, to enrich one’s own faith perspective.
A Multi-Faith Leadership Team is guiding a process of developing The 2nd Community as a program that is inviting to persons from all faith communities and creating an accepting and respectful space that is safe for open discussion of faith stories without even the semblance of “proselytizing.” The 2nd Community has the potential of augmenting one’s own faith community, thus becoming a “2nd Community” in which one can join others to have a unified voice for tolerance and mutual respect.
