Worm Composting Workshop

Worm compost header 2

Worm composting is one of the few recycling methods that can be done both indoors and out.  With a few simple steps you can use worms to compost and recycle food waste, produce rich organic castings (compost) for the garden, cultivate fish bait, and potentially reduce your garbage bill.

This course will cover how to setup and maintain your own worm bin, and teach you all the components of a healthy worm system.  Topics include:

  • Reasons for composting.
  • Types of worms used.
  • The anatomy of a worm.
  • What to feed your worms.
  • Other critters in the bin.
  • Harvesting and use for castings.
  • Setting up and maintaining a worm bin.
  • Q & A

The workshop fee includes helpful instructional materials and a certificate for a container of worms for when you are ready to start your own bin.

About the Instructor:  The workshop will be taught by the Yakima Area Arboretum's  Co-Executive Director Colleen Adams-Schuppe. Colleen has been an avid worm composter and yard waste recycler for the last 17 years.
