2014 Match Play Ladder

How to Play

A "ladder tournament" format starts out with each player, strongest to weakest, being given a spot on the ladder. Our ladder tournament will take place From April 15th – July 13th and will be self-serve: there are no organized play dates. Rather, the tournament bracket, or ladder, is posted for all to see, and players take it upon themselves to issue challenges and set up times to play matches.

New players may enter the Ladder Match at any time while competition has started.  They will be given the lowest rung available to begin play.

The Challenge Rules

Only lower-ranked players can issue a challenge (No. 8 can challenge No. 7, but 7 can't challenge 8). The challenged player is prohibited from declining to play; if you are challenged by a lower-ranked player, you have to accept. Typically, the match should be played within a week of the challenge.  Understanding that schedules are tight, when available you must play the challenger before any other match play challenges.

If the challenging player wins, she moves up the ladder, trading places with the golfer she beat. If the golfer who accepted the challenge wins, she maintains her position on the ladder.  You must send your challenges results to Donna Craig (djegod@aol.com) after the match has been played.  An updated ladder spreadsheet will be sent to all players – results will also be posted on our website.

Objective

The object of a ladder tournament is to move up the ladder; the player at the top at the end of the tournament on June 30, 2014 is the winner.

Handicaps

When playing a challenge match, you will dot your card based on your full handicap, then only use the dots on the nine holes that you are playing.  You can also post these scores for handicap purposes.

Best Times to Play

The Nine and Dine 9 hole play days are a great time to play.  These are scheduled weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays at varying venues. These work well because you can show up and play without a lot of scheduling.  You must be part of the Nine and Dine League to take advantage of these low rates and tee times. Otherwise you can play any time you like and wherever you like.

Cost

The cost for the Ladder Match is a one time fee of $20.00 plus applicable green fees payable wherever you play.
