About the Presenters

Jane Thierfeld Brown, EdD, is the director of student services at the University of Connecticut School of Law and co-director of College Autism Spectrum. She has worked in Disability Services for 33 years. She consults with many institutions of higher education, as well as with parents and students on issues of students with autism spectrum disorders, and is a frequent speaker at conferences.  She co-authored Students With Asperger Syndrome: A Guide for College Personnel. Dr. Brown has three children, the youngest of whom is a 20-year old son on the spectrum.

Lorraine Wolf, PhD, is the Director of Disability Services at Boston University. She has over 30 years' experience working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders and consults internationally on university accommodations for students with disabilities.  She is co-author of Students With Asperger Syndrome:  A Guide for College Personnel.   She is the parent of twin boys, one of whom is on the autism spectrum.

Co-authors of A Parent's Guide to College for Students on the Autism Spectrum and Students with Asperger Syndrome: A Guide for College Personnel

 

Jane Thierfeld Brown, EdD, and Lorraine Wolf, PhD, will present on key steps needed for success after high school for students with Asperger Syndrome and related conditions.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Understanding the unique needs of life for teens/young adults with Asperger Syndrome and related conditions.
  • Working with teens and their parents to develop the necessary independence to function in college and at work.
  • Teaching or advancing the social skills of young adults with Asperger Syndrome and related conditions.
  • Learning the insider's view of the accommodations process in college and the difference between high school and college.
  • How to work with your college student to develop skills for academic and campus life.
  • How to work with campus personnel to foster success.
  • Understanding the skills needed to learn self-regulation and organization to help prepare for college or employment.
  • Learn what it takes to be successful in the workplace.
