Business Plan 3: Management and Operations 6-10-14

 In this workshop, we address the “nitty-gritty” of establishing and operating your business.  We will present a method to guide you as you define your management and operational processes, identify the associated personnel requirements, and estimate both startup and operational costs.  Issues to be addressed include:

  • A general discussion of the process for developing detailed, time-phased and budgeted plan.
  • An example of applying this process toward the development of a plan for opening your business.
  • A discussion of the requirements for complying with government regulations and licensing.
  • An overview of small business management requirements.
  • An introduction to financial record keeping and the development of financial projections.

The cost data that you collect in this phase of the planning process, along with cost and revenue estimates developed during Business Plan II, will become the inputs to the financial analysis to be addressed in the next workshop.

Presenter:

Lori Treadwell, owner/operator of a family owned wholesale optical laboratory for over 38 years.  Knowledgeable in all aspects of running the business; able to work with and mentor many different employee personalities while focusing on production schedules and quality issues. In 2011, I sold the business and am now Chair of COLA (California Optical Laboratories Association) which is a non-profit organization which donates time and money to schools and other charities. I have been involved in all aspects of the wholesale optical business: production supervisor, purchasing, accounting, data entry, customer service, all lab work, and anything else that needed to be done including janitorial.  In that time I developed strong personal relationships with my customers, I feel that in small business, this is the key to success.

Stephen Eisold most recently served as CEO of Brendan Technologies.  He has more than 25 years marketing, business development and fundraising experience in both large and small companies.  Before joining Brendan, Mr. Eisold served as CEO at Axiom Biotechnologies, where he had full Profit & Loss responsibilities as well as having directed all fundraising and business development activities.  Prior to that, Mr. Eisold was Chief Operating Officer at Cypros Pharmaceutical, and was responsible for directing marketing, sales, finance, regulatory affairs, clinical development and corporate development activities.
