2014 McKinlevyille Pony Express Days Chili Cook-off Official Rules
- True chili is defined as any kind of meat, or combination of meats, with or without beans, cooked with chili peppers, various spices and other secret ingredients, cooked into a spiced stew.
- All chili MUST be cooked in an approvable facility before the event. Certified kitchens qualify and this could include non-certified kitchens such as granges, churches & schools (Health Department requirement), please plan accordingly.
- Registration must be received by May 28th. Please send a $50 refundable registration fee. This will be refunded after the event. Send to PO Box 2144, McKinleyville, CA 95519 or drop off at chamber offce 1640 Central Ave. McKinleyville.
- PARTICIPANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR: all cooking equipment such as: burners (electricity provided), extension cords (heavy duty and at least 25 feet long), pans, serving spoons, TABLE, linens, a sign/banner with clearly displayed name, business/participant name and/or organization. 10 GALLONS OF CHILI.
- CHAMBER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR: County Public Health Department permit, diners who enter the event, sample cups, tasting spoons, organize judging, securing the event location, promotion, regulating the cook-off, pencils, ballot sheets and voting area.
- SET UP: Teams may set up at the Activity Center from 3:00-4:30pm. Participants who arrive AFTER 4:30pm will be disqualified from the competition, but may still set up to give away free samples. You must be ready for the community by 5:15pm.
WE HAVE ROOM FOR ONLY 8 PARTICIPANTS, REGISTRATION IS ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. YOUR $50 REFUNDABLE REGISTRATION FEE MUST BE RECEIVED TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT.
