TISS Honor Student Dinner Presentations - 15 April, 2014

 

Come and join us for an evening of good food, good company, and rich intellectual rewards as we learn of the research projects of four honor students. The event will take place at the Hotel Aloft in Chapel Hill.  The buffet line will open at 6:15pm.  After a brief welcome (6:45 pm) the presentations will begin. They will continue through the evening, with occasional breaks for coffee and desserts.  

 

Hannah  Nemer (UNC-Chapel Hill)  Major - Peace, War, and Defense . Advised by Peter Redfield (Anthropology). Topic:   Idi Amin, Repression, and the forging of  Self-Definition by Uganda’s Jewish Community.

 Julia Nething (UNC-Chapel Hill) Major - Peace, War, and Defense, Minor - Computer Science and Russian Culture.  Advised by Erica Johnson (Global Studies).  Topic: Russian Federation’s use of Cyber attacks and Cyberwarfare against Estonia in 2006 and Georgia in 2008.

 Ethan Ruby (Duke University) Majors - Public Policy Studies and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (concentration in Chinese), Minor - Economics Minor.  Topic: Trade Disputes between the United States and China: Evaluating the Causes.  Advised by Tana Johnson (Public Policy and Political Science).

 Julia Schast (Elon University) Major - International Studies, Minors - History, Political Science, and Criminal Justice Studies.  Advised by Sean Giovanello (Political Science). Topic: Why Treaties Die: A Study of United States Senate Rejection of the Ratification of Multilateral Treaties.
