Bike For Fresh Food! Bike for Kids to Play Ball!

June 1st Tour de Brooklyn!

  Pledge Now For Your Rider!

Pledge on your rider here for Tour de Brooklyn on Sunday, June 1st! Have fun, support a daring individual or individuals getting fit and support a healthier life for all children! The tour is a 20-mile bicycle ride through Brooklyn, including past Prospect Park and Flatbush, where Seeds in the Middle plans to open three farmers markets in high-need neighborhoods. Registration opens May 14.

Please pledge to help underserved children and families access nearby affordable, freshfood and fitness. See Crown Heights kids who rode the 2010 5-Boro Bike Tour here.

Here's some fun pledge ideas!

  •  Bet on your rider! Is your rider afraid he or she can't make 20 miles, like Solomon Long, a hefty former principal at PS 91? He's asking folks to bet on how far Mr. Long can go! First winners get free lunch with Mr. Long!
  • Sponsor a rider! We will publicize sponsors at our farmers markets and our youth Hip2B Healthy ambassadors will give out their promotional materials.

Where does the money go?

- $35 goes to Transportation Alternatives, which promotes alternatives to motor vehicles, like bicycling, walking and running. This fee gives every rider a TA membership and pays the entry fee. Registration opens May 1.

- We're asking $300 in additional pledges per rider ($335 total) for Seeds in the Middle, a 501c charity empowering children in food deserts to create healthy environments at school and in their communities. This June, Seeds in the Middle wants to put up three farmers markets, featuring youth-run Hip2B Healthy Markets, plus possibly more youth-run farmstands. Our markets will be:

  • Thursdays @ Crown Heights at Hamilton Metz Park, Albany/Lefferts Aves.
  •  Fridays @ Parkside Plaza (Q) train between Ocean and Flatbush Aves.
  •  Saturdays @ Prospect Park entrance at Empire/Flatbush Aves.

You can also sponsor kids to play ball.

$300: 4 kids get 6 weeks-soccer or basketball

$900: Sponsor one week at your Farmers Market

Sign petitions of support for our markets here!

Attention: Schools! Riders! Students can ride, too! Pledge on a school team so they can get a chef night, when a premier chef comes to their school kitchen & prepares with students a sumptuous, nutritional dinner served to parents and the community. Or help them fund a student-run Hip2B Healthy Market at their school, where healthy snacks are only 50 cents!

Get a principal or a teacher and/or school friends to ride and place bets on how far he or she can go.

Thank you for your pledges. Will you rally on your rider on June 1? Let us know. Any questions? Email:
