Our off-road training has been so popular, we're doing it again!
On Saturday, June 21, 2014, we'll head out again to get some off-road training under our belts -- and some dirt under our fenders!
For three years now, Morton's BMW has hosted a day of off-road training for GS (and other enduro bike) riders at the Massey family farm in Spotsylvania. About 50 eager riders joined us each time and we're ready to go again!
Join us on Saturday, June 21, for our fourth annual off-road training day. We'll meet at Morton's BMW at 9:00 am, then head for the farm after a rider meeting and the ritual signing of release forms. We'll have a couple hours of training in the morning, take a break for lunch -- included in your registration fee -- and continue training in the afternoon. At the end of the training session, we'll take a little adventure tour around the farm so you can practice what you've learned.
Riders in a previous class negotiate a trail through the woods.
We plan two levels of instruction -- basic lessons for those new to this and those who don't go off-pavement very often, and more advanced drills for those who've done this before or ride off-pavement regularly. The goal is to improve the skills you already have and make off-pavement riding more fun and less intimidating.
We provide the location, the instructors, the box lunch, and all the water and fluids you'll need. You provide your GS-style bike (other brands are acceptable, too, but they need to be street-legal dual sports), full riding gear (helmet, jacket, pants, boots, and gloves), and a good attitude. Chances are you'll get dirty, you may get wet (this is a rain or shine event), and we can't promise you won't fall down. You may want to think about adding some crash protection to your bike if it doesn't already have it. DOT-legal knobby tires, or 50-50 tires like the Heidenau Scout K60 or the Metzeler Karoo 3, are highly recommended. It's possible to do the course with more street-oriented rubber, but it will be much easier and more enjoyable on more agressive tread. The parts and apparel pros at Morton's BMW can help you select what you'll need.
Your trainers are all experienced riding off-road, and most are certified MSF instructors as well. They will take good care of you, no matter what your skill level, and will even help you pick up your bike if necessary. Morton's BMW staff will be on hand to assist and provide you with food and drink as needed. We'll also have a compressor at the farm to pump up your tire pressure, should you want to run lower psi for the course.
So, all that's left is for you to register online and start preparing for some good dirty fun!
NOTE: If you try to register and find the event is full, drop a note to Steve Anderson and he'll put you on the waiting list. If there are cancellations, riders will be added in the order in which their e-mail was received.
