Dunedin Post Budget Breakfast
Each year CPAG provides child-focused analyses and commentary of the year's budget. The aim is to provide an accessible and affordable avenue for the community to come together and hear about how the budget affects children and young people, especially our most vulnerable who live in poverty.
CPAG warmly thanks the Otago PHA for their wonderful support in organising the Dunedin breakfast.
Speakers:
Associate Professor Nicola Atwool
Associate Professor Nicola Atwool is in the Department of Sociology, Gender and Social Work at Otago University. She has extensive experience in working with children and families including being a social worker for nearly twenty years. Nicola was Principal Advisor in the Office of the Children’s Commissioner from 2006 until she returned to the university at the beginning of 2012.
Associate Professor Paul Hansen
Associate Professor Paul Hansen brings an economist’s perspective to the discussion. He works in the area of priority setting and resource allocation, especially in the health sector. As well as a career in academia and as a start-up entrepreneur, Paul has worked at the Treasury and consulted for PHARMAC, the Ministry of Health and Housing New Zealand. He is clear that “economics is all about interactions between people, and that economics provides a lens for understanding the society we live in”.
Chair:
Professor Mark Henaghan
Prof Mark Henaghan, Dean of Law at Otago University. Mark’s area of expertise is family law and he has been, and continues to be a strong advocate for children, and a regular supporter of research and initiatives that will contribute to children’s wellbeing. Mark was a member of the Office of the Children’s Commissioner’s Expert Advisory Group on solutions to child poverty.
