Presentation Summary:
Our plenary speaker for this event will be The Rev. Paul E. Hoffman, author of Faith Forming Faith and Faith Shaping Ministry.  Paul is under call to the Northwest Washington Synod as a writer and teacher for the larger Church.

Paul’s challenge to us in the time we spend together will be to rediscover the deep, rich theological tradition of holy baptism.  He will share with us his experiences in parish ministry of bringing people to faith as adults in preparation for their own baptism or its renewal in the very secular city of Seattle, WA.  Paul’s convictions about the power of the paschal mystery lived out in worship and in all of parish life will form the framework of our time together in worship, Bible study, plenary lecture, group reflection, and personal conversations.

Paul will be with us throughout the course of the event and is open to individual and small group conversations and strategic planning for ministry back in your own setting.

Bio:
Paul has been an ELCA Pastor since 1982, and Lead Pastor at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle for 17 years, 1996-2013.  There he has led The WAY, a twenty-first century adaptation of the ancient practice of bringing new Christians to faith through a yearlong mentoring process in discipleship.

Paul retired from parish ministry in May of 2013 in order to devote his full-time energies to a new ministry of writing and teaching about this outreach for the larger Church.  Known across the Lutheran Church for his teaching, workshops, and mentoring, Paul brings a wealth of experience from leading The WAY at his congregation in Seattle for the past 17 years.  Their story is captured in the recent Faith Forming Faith, (Cascade Books, 2012) and in the newly released Faith Shaping Ministry  (Cascade Books, 2013).

Paul has worked ecumenically and led workshops and training events in the US and Europe, having spoken and taught at Oxford, Paris, St. Petersburg, and in North American congregations from coast to coast.

He is married to Donna Seuren Hoffman, a reading specialist in Shoreline Schools.  She shares his joy of music, reading, gardening, and travel.  The couple lives in Seattle just across Lake Union from their two adult children, Jacob and Lauren.
