To celebrate National Public Works Week, the City of San Diego Environmental Services and Public Works Departments will host a tour of the Miramar Landfill. Get a closer look at the Native Species Nursery, Miramar Greenery-the Greens/Wood Waste Recycling/Composting Area, the Recycle/Buy-Back Center & Household Hazardous Waste Transfer Facility and the Disposal Operations/Tipping Decks.
Almost 910,000 tons of waste is disposed of every year at the Miramar Landfill. But this place is no dump! With services like industrial compost and greenery recycling, the City is doing its part to ensure all waste materials are recycled from the landfill. Two-thirds of the trash that goes straight into the landfill is recyclable. What are the two biggest contributors? Take the tour to find out!
To minimize the number of vehicles driving through the landfill, carpooling is encouraged. Casual clothing and closed-toed shoes required.
