BUILDING SCIENCE SERIES

 Details that Control Air Leakage

in New Homes

Tuesday June 24, 2014

9:00AM to 4:30PM

Most building professionals have some understanding of why air sealing is important, particularly for houses in a cold country like Canada.  What seems to confound many, including building officials and designers is how to build air barrier systems that are effective, practical and inexpensive.

Join one of Canada's foremost housing experts in a lively hands-on workshop that will help you be able to:

  • Identify why controlling air leakage is important in buildings,
  • Identify how air moves through the enclosure and the problems it can cause,
  • Identify air sealing approaches,
  • Identify materials that can be used as a part of an air barrier system and
  • Detail effective, practical, inexpensive air barrier systems for houses.

Facilitators:

John Godden has over 25 years of experience as a home and heating system designer and hands-on builder with projects that include the "Clearsphere" a CHBC EnviroHome. A graduate of the Bachelor of Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo, John is a leading rater and consultant for the R-2000, ENERGY STAR, EnerGuide and LEED for Homes programs. John co-designed ENERGY STAR workshops for builders and advisors in Ontario and regularly delivers seminars on air-tightness, better building practices, and green sales and marketing.
