Day 2 – Friday, November 7, 2014: Safe Schools

Guiding Question: What strategies and programs can we use to create safe, respectful and inclusive classrooms, schools and communities?

General Guidelines for Proposal Submission

We are currently seeking a broad range of innovative presentations that align with the above strands.  Interactive sessions are the preferred learning approach.  Presenters are encouraged to include group work, pair work, kinesthetic activities, question & answer and other modalities which engage a variety of learning styles.  Presentations with multiple adult presenters and/or those involved students are strongly encouraged.

Classes will be 1.5 hours long.  You may submit multiple proposals.

Proposal Evaluation

The Conference Planning Committee is comprised of prevention staff from the Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, San Francisco and San Mateo County Offices of Education.  Proposals will be reviewed by the Committee and chosen based on the guidelines listed herein.  Preference will be given to classes that are interactive.

Presenter Materials

Upon acceptance of a class proposal, presenters must submit a professional biography and a photograph to be used in marketing materials.  All bios and photos must be submitted by July 1, 2014.

All presenters will be required to submit their electronic materials (i.e. PowerPoints, handouts) via email or onto Dropbox three weeks before the conference (by October 15, 2014).  All conference attendees will receive electronic copies of the materials upon registration.  Conference organizers will not be producing materials, printing, or making copies of handouts or materials. There are no copying facilities onsite.

*If you are not willing and/or able to share materials, you will not be selected to present.

Registration and Fees

The registration fee for presenters will be waived for the day they present and presenters can attend the other day of the conference at the discounted rate of $110.  All presenters are required to register.  All presenters are required to pay for parking.  Parking is available for $10 and the parking attendants require cash.

Media and Technology

Each room will be set up with a laptop (PC or netbook), an LCD projector, speakers, chart paper and markers.  Wireless internet will be available in all rooms for presenters.  If additional technology is integral to your class (i.e. a Mac computer), please plan to bring your own equipment.
