Do you enjoy living in Hartford?
Do you enjoy telling others about what you believe are some of the many benefits of urban living?
Do you enjoy entertaining people in your house/apartment?
If you answered yes to these questions, then we would love it if you would host a group of 4 - 6 THP participants (ages 12 - 18) and their leader for a dinner.
Home Dinners are an important part of the Life in the City track of The Hartford Project. We started developing the Life in the City focus in 2011, when we began to notice that the Project was spending the majority of it's time in some of the city's neediest areas therefore, perpetuating a negative stereotype of Hartford to many of it's participants. This stereotype, falsely shares that urban living really has nothing to offer them and that success for the people we were working with, would mean being able to move out of the city.
The goals of the Life in the City track are:
- show our participants some of the benefits of urban living
- open our participants eyes to Hartford as a vibrant community where they might chose to live
- pursue our vision to experience and share God's love in Hartford
One way that we do this is by sending them to homes of people who choose to live here and have a positive view of living in Hartford. Our hope is that as they spend an evening in the homes of people who enjoy
living in Hartford, that relationships will be formed that could possibly change some of their culturally imbedded views on urban living.
As a Home Dinner Host, you can:
The Hartford Project (THP) is an urban ministry immersion experience for teenagers in New England.
