Why is this important? The success of many federal policies and programs ultimately relies upon the behavior of individuals. People have to apply for a loan program, attend a job training program, and on-the-ground administrators need to keep accurate records. Even once intended beneficiaries know about a program, they often need to sign up, show up, and follow up for the program to have the desired impact. Decades of research in human behavior has shown that small details in the design and context of programs can have a big impact on program uptake and completion.

What will attendees gain from attending this Masterclass? Through a combination of lectures, group discussions, and break-out groups, the Masterclass will explore key behavioral concepts, which can be used to tackle persistent challenges in federal programs and policy. The curriculum will help you understand what features of federal programs and services create barriers for beneficiaries and administrators. It will also help you generate behaviorally informed policy ideas. Participants will leave with concrete tools and next steps towards improving outcomes.
