WNG International Roundtable

Wednesday, June 11, 2014
4:00 PM - 6:15 PM

The WNG International Roundtable is very pleased to welcome guest speaker Tomáš Hart, head of the economic section of the Czech Republic Embassy in Washington, D.C. WNG boardroom sessions are highly interactive, and offer ample opportunity for questions, comments and dialog.

This year marks two significant milestones: The 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and Fall of the Berlin Wall (1989) and the 10th anniversary of the Czech Republic joining the European Union (2004). Additionally, negotiations on a possible U.S.-European Union trade agreement, aimed at reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers to U.S.-Europe trade and investment, are moving forward with anticipation of an agreement later this year. Yet at a time of celebration, the unfolding Russia-Ukraine crisis has refocused attention on Central and Eastern Europe, raising serious questions about political and economic risk in the region.

Mr. Hart will discuss with us the current economic climate in the Czech Republic and business opportunities for American firms locating there. We will discuss the U.S.-European Union trade agreement and how it would affect U.S.-Czech business and, more broadly, U.S.-European business relations. Furthermore, given his five years' experience living and working in Russia, Tomas will talk with us about developments in Russia and Ukraine from a uniquely Czech perspective.
