Stormy Classrooms

(Discovering strategies for addressing random acts of violence and bullying in classrooms)

Is your classroom calm and relaxing or a violent, destructive storm? As educators, how can we build strong classroom communities that support teaching? What resources can empower us to be supportive allies for students? What are some strategies for providing effective instruction while managing a range of student behaviors?

This Culminating 5-hour Professional Development Training will explore:

  • Best practices for bullying prevention
  • How we can build trusting relationships as a component of classroom management – incorporating applicable Danielson Competencies for Teacher Effectiveness
  • Strategies for addressing cyberbullying, harassment and the different types of bullying and aggressive behavior that occur in schools and classrooms
  • How to include the New York State Education Department’s Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) and Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) Act, and the NYC DOE’s Respect for All (RFA) program as a bridge to create policies for developing a school culture that is supportive and safe for our students

Meet your colleagues from throughout the City and work through these common issues together!

Lunch will be provided.

All participants will receive CUNY Certificates of Participation.
