WACLV is pleased to welcome the American Security Project, represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Brig. General Stephen A. Cheney, USMC (Retired), and Lt. General Norman Seip, USAF (Retired), who will discuss whether and how national security may be threatened by climate change.

As the global population continues to expand, and major economies grow at substantial rates, there is a rising concern about the impact on Earth’s climate, now and in future decades. The American Security Project is “a nonpartisan organization created to educate the American public and the world about the changing nature of national security in the 21st Century.”

Brig. General Stephen A. Cheney is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the National War College and the University of Southern California. His over 30 years of service in the Marine Corps included a variety of command and staff positions. He also served as DeputyExecutive Secretary to two Defense Secretaries, and Inspector General of the Marine Corps.  Following retirement from military service he became CEO for Business Executives for National Security in Washington, D.C., and most recently was President/CEO of the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas.

Lt. General Norman Seip was Commander of the 12th Air Force (U.S. Southern Command) Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, where he oversaw Air Force assets, five forward-operating locations, and civil and military engagements inCentral and South America, as well as the Caribbean. As a command pilot with more than 4,500 flying hours, primarily in fighter aircraft, he flew the F-15E in support of multiple operations.  As the Deputy Combined Forces Air Component Commander for U.S. Central Command, he supported combat operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
