Presenting on "Drug and Alcohol Education; Understanding Drug Dependency. The link between Drug Addiction and Childhood Trauma"

Michael S. Oden MA, DPO II is a Deputy Probation Officer in the State of California with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. For 15 years he has supervised and interviewed thousands of clients who were under the jurisdiction of the criminal justice system. Michael believes in helping individuals who have had issues with substance dependency for most of their lives. He has dedicated his professional life to championing the belief that gaining emotional freedom from addiction is possible. He is a counselor in private practice, a consultant, provider for California Sex Offender Management Board, CEU provider, workshop facilitator, and trainer for organizations. He developed The Needs Based Method® and is the founder of The Final Step.

Course Abstract:

To teach participants who work with clients with a substance abuse issue, gain an indepth understanding of their client’s journey and what prompts their drug dependent behavior.

Course is intended to help participants understand the impact of socialization, the origins of Drug Dependency and the impact that it has on self, the family and society. This course will examine contemporary drug issues relevant to the use and abuse of drugs. Upon completion of the course the participants will be able to identify the social, emotional and cultural implications of drug use. 

Course Objective:

  • Effects of Drugs on Society and Dimensions of Drug Use
  • Understanding Drug & Alcohol Use and Abuse
  • How and Why Drugs Work (from the clients point of view)

This course meets the qualifications for 1 hour continuing education credit for MFT's, LPCC's, LEP's, and/or LCSW's required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) provider number - PCE5216

This course meets the qualifications for 1 hour continuing education credit for addiction professionals required by the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) provider number - 130835.
