Come Join the Solution Revolution  Building Human Capital Through Movement

Calling all parents, school administrators, teachers & coaches!

July 21, 2014, 9:00a - 12:30p

The Slocum Foundation and Slocum Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine are pleased to partner with the University of Oregon's International Sports Science Symposium, LaneKids, PacificSource Health Plans, and the Neurospine Institute Foundation to host the Active Youth Consortium's Solution Revolution!

Early childhood physical literacy unlocks the potential for life-long enjoyment in physical activity and enhanced athletic performance. Kids who are physically fit enjoy greater academic achievement and higher life-time earning potential.

Who should attend?   Parents, school administrators, teachers, coaches, athletic trainers, childhood education advocates and those interested in opportunities to increase physical activity among youth. Parents are encouraged to bring kids of any age to enjoy onsite physical activities, exhibitions and healthy snacks.

About the Solution Revolution Community Event

The Solution Revolution community event is on the Monday between the University of Oregon's inaugural International Sports Science Symposium and the 2014 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships. The aim of the community event is for participants to:

  • Better understand the science of enhancing academic achievement and long-term economic stability through movement.
  • Discover how early childhood physical literacy helps establish a life-long interest and aptitude for physical activity, resulting in improved athletic performance and reduced injuries across the lifespan.
  • Adopt a new culture of coaching and expectations for child athletes.
  • See how the science of early movement can be translated into universally-accessible community interventions.
  • Learn about opportunities for children to participate in age-appropriate physical literacy activities in Lane County.
  • Become advocates for the Solution Revolution -- Understand why our community can no longer accept the social norm of physical inactivity.

Adults and children will enjoy the community information tables and exhibits on the Law School lawn. Kids will take part in obstacle courses and demonstrations by Active Youth Consoritum members. Enjoy music and healthy snacks between activities.
