MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

What we say (and don’t) when we cover Israel

With the recent crisis in Israel, we’re reading more media coverage each day.

Who decides what’s being written and why do they make the choices they do, impacting how we think, feel and understand Israel?

Join us for this important event with media experts who cover Israel and Diaspora affairs.

J.J. Goldberg is the Editor-at-Large of the newspaper The Forward, where he served as editor in chief for seven years (2000-2007). He served as U.S. bureau chief of the Israeli newsmagazine Jerusalem Report, managing editor of The Jewish Week of New York, and as a nationally syndicated columnist.

Lisa Goldman is the director of the Israel-Palestine Initiative at the New America Foundation. She is a co-founder and contributing editor to +972, the Tel Aviv-based progressive magazine that is published in English. She has reported on events such as Israel's 2005 withdrawal from Gaza, the 2006 war with Hezbollah and Egypt's 2011 uprising.

Yoni Goldstein is the editor of the Canadian Jewish News since December 2013. His journalism experience includes working for the Jerusalem Report, Maclean’s magazine and the National Post, as well as being a contributor to the Huffington Post, the Globe and Mail, the Wall Street Journal and Ha’aretz.

Joseph Rosen received a PhD in “Social & Political Thought” from York University. He has focused on the role of trauma and testimony in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Rosen recently published an article in the Walrus magazine, “The Israel Taboo” that addresses why it is so difficult to talk about Israel in Canada and has also performed and published Jewish-Palestinian dialogues.
