Dr. Evatt will present about a healthy diet for PD, discuss vitamins and supplements, protein and levodopa issues.

A. PD 101 - Matthew Barrett, MD
Movement Disorder Specialist, University of Virginia, Charlottesville
Dr. Barrett will discuss the basics of Parkinson's disease, what it is, who it affects, why it occurs, and what to do about it. The session will conclude with a question and answer session.
B. Wiihab for PD - Nathan "Ben" Herz, OTD
Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences, Staunton, Virginia
Dr. Herz will discuss how Video Gaming can remediate various symptoms in Parkinson's disease. He will explore the different aspects of gaming as a virtual environment and exercise platform. Included will be the physiological reaction to the video game and symptoms associated, and how the "Wiifit" can address and assist with balance issues. Dr. Herz will talk about his research in this area and the results he had in a study, focusing on the effect of video gaming in PD.
C. Continuing the Conversation - Monique L. Giroux, MD
Movement Disorder Specialist, Movement and NeuroPerformance Center, Englewood, Colorado
Dr. Giroux will expand on a holistic philosophy of care for Parkinson's and treatmetn tailored to an individual's needs. Complimentary therapies with the most benefit, safety issues, and related pros and cons will be part of the discussion.
A. The Challenges of Changing Roles & Caregiving in Parkinson's Disease -
Carol Manning, PhD
University of Virginia, Charlottesville
Parkinson's disease impacts spouses, family members and partners in addition to the individual with the disease. Dr. Manning will discuss the impact of PD on all of these people including the challenges of being a partner and a caregiver. This will be used as a springboard for group discussion.
B. Physical Therapy for Individual's with Parkinson's: Decided when to go and who to go to - Jeff Hoder, PT, DPT, NCS
Program Director, Rehabilitation and Wellness, VCU PMDC, Richmond, VA
Dr. Hoder will discuss the importance of exercise and physical therapy across the spectrum of Parkinson's disease, from newly diagnosed onward. Additionally, he will discuss how to best choose a provider, how to set specific goals, and how to make sure the improvements last!
