Business Plan 4: Financial Planning and Projections 8-16-16 

Accurate and consistent financial plans and projections are the hallmark of a well-run business, and are critical to your success.  In this workshop, we will use the SCORE financial template to collect startup costs, and to estimate revenues, costs, and profits.  A copy of this template – an Excel workbook –will be provided to you at the workshop.  Specific topics include

  • Definition of key financial assumptions.
  • Personnel costs, and attribution to sales or administration.
  • Cost of sales.
  • Revenue, gross profit and net profit.
  • Analysis of Profit & Loss, Cash Flow and Balance Sheets.

A demonstration of the use of the financial template will be provided, followed by a discussion of the effects of varying various cost and revenue assumptions.

At the end of this workshop, you will have to tools to accurately estimate your startup costs, financial requirements, and the prospective profitability of your company.

  

Presenters:

John Batt spent his early years as an auditor in the United Kingdom followed by thirteen years’ of experience working at a UK subsidiary of the Aluminum Company of Canada where he became the Commercial Director responsible for accounting, administration and product distribution. He transferred to the United States as an accounting manager for the Consumer Export division of The Pillsbury Company where he was appointed as Director of Finance – International/Ice Cream Division nine years later. John led the due diligence team in Pillsbury’s acquisition of Bumble Bee Seafoods and eventually transferred to Bumble Bee where he became CFO and Treasurer and eventually President and CEO.

Frank Caperino’s experience in business and multi-unit franchising gives him the expertise to carefully guide entrepreneurs in selecting the correct franchise and business opportunity for them. Frank worked for Sperry Univac for fourteen (14) years.  During this period, he repaired, installed and instructed U.S. Naval personnel on computer systems aboard ships and at U.S. Naval bases around the world; he lived in Italy for three years and four years in Japan.  He has also started several companies; these include:  a company for data entry in Mexico under the Maquiladora Program, a Defense Contractor in San Diego and up to eight (8) franchise locations of Cold Stone Creameries.  He was a franchise with Cold Stone Creamery for fifteen (15) years.  For a two (2) year period, he was also a Financial Planner for Cigna Associates and earned a Certified Financial Planner certification (CFP) during this period. Frank has also been a faculty member of the University of Phoenix and Colorado Technical University teaching finance courses for the last two years. He has a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, an MBA in Finance and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
