Intoduction to International Arbitration
What is the aim of the module?
To provide an understanding of the general principles of international arbitration and a comparison of the main alternative dispute resolution processes – arbitration, mediation and adjudication. The course will give candidates a basic understanding of the principles of good practice and procedure in international arbitration.

How is the course delivered?
The course is delivered over 1 day on Saturday, September 27, 2014. The day starts at 9:00 am and runs to 5:00pm. After the course is completed there will be a networking event with senior members and leaders of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, followed by a sit-down dinner.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment consists of one assignment that is distributed to candidates on the day of the course. Candidates will be given 28 days to complete and submit the assignment. The result is a pass or fail based on understanding and knowledge of the material covered in the syllabus. Results are dispatched to candidates normally eight to twelve weeks from the date of the conclusion of the assignment.

What does the course fee include?
The course fee includes registration on the course, the first attempt at the assignment, study materials, lunch and refreshments throughout the day, networking event and sit down dinner. Candidates are advised to refer to the registration and contact form which details other fees that may be relevant.
What happens when I register for the course?
Upon successful registration, candidates will receive confirmation they are booked on the course. Joining instructions and course materials will be sent to candidates approximately 2 weeks before the course start date.

What is the format of this training?
Primarily the sessions will be discussion led by faculty members vetted by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Before the training a series of written questions will be posed which are designed to help focus each Candidate’s review and will be used as a basis for discussion. Following the training will be a written exercise which will be marked (graded). A workbook will be provided.
What grade of membership will I be entitled to?
If you successfully complete the programme and written exercise, you will be entitled to apply for Associate membership.
What is the significance of attaining accreditation as an Associate member of the CIArb?
Associate members of the CIArb may use the post-nominal letters/designation “ACIArb” which reflects a professional commitment to the encouragement and promotion of private dispute resolution.
