2014 "Raising C. diff. Awareness" Conference

Join forces with world renowned healthcare professionals and infection preventionalists as they come together to talk about what we can do to decrease C. difficile infection rates and beat this superbug.

The C Diff Foundation's "Raising C. diff. Awareness" conference is dedicated to discussing the prevention, management, diagnosis, treatment, patient results, and environmental safety related to C. difficile and Healthcare-Associated Infections.

This is an opportunity to learn from experts regarding C. difficile infection prevention, treatments, and environmental safety.  Build on existing knowledge and experience and learn strategies to provide the safest care worldwide.

Presentations begin at: 8:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m.

Registration Fee:          $45.00

Guest Speakers

Key Speaker and Conference Chair:  Dr. Fred Zar, MD, Professor of Clinical Medicine University of Illinois at Chicago, Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency, Vice Head of Education, Department of Medicine Chief, Inpatient Medical Service University of Illinois Hospital.

Mary Kay Sobcinski, RN, MHA, and is the Director of Clinical Operations at Rebiotix, Inc. where she is spearheading the development and implementation of the clinical development program for RBX2660  a next-generation fecal transplant product.  Presention Topic: "Harvesting the Power of the Human Gut Microbione."

Professor Simon M. Cutting, is a bacterial geneticist with over 25 years of ecxperience with Bacillus since graduating from Oxford University with a D. Phil in 1986. His work on Bacillus probiotics provides another area of research interests and he was the first to address the fundamental mechanisms that might enable these bacteria to promote potential health benefits.                      Presentation Topic: "Probiotics for prevention and treatment of C. difficile infection."

Dr. Chandrabali Ghose-Paul, PhD, MS, Currently a research scientist affiliated with Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, affiliate of Rockefeller University, Committed to research/developing solutions to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic and focusing on developing vaccine (preventuon) for Clostridium difficile infection.  Presentation Topic: "What is the Microbiome and how it is related to the Fecal Microbiome Tranplantations"

Dr. Casey M. Theriot, PhD,  Research Investigator,Divison of Infectious Disease, Department of Internal Medicine,  The University of Michigan, and in a multidisciplinary collaborative environment that bridges research at the bench and research in the hospital. Today Dr. Theriot's research focuses on defining the gastrointestinal tract microbiome and metabolome during different disease states to understand how perturbations to this sytem affect human health.   Presentation Topic: "The Gut Microbiome and Metabolome in Susceptibility to Clostridium difficile Infection." 

Dr. Clifford McDonald, MD, Currently the Chief of the Prevention and Response Branch in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at the Center of Disease Control (CDC).    Presentation Topic: "Clostridium difficile disinfecting and spores."

Dr. Dale N. Gerding, MD, is Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illiois and Research Physician at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. He is an infectious disease specialist and hospital epidemiologist, past president of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America and past chair the antibiotic resistance committee of SHEA. He is a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. His research interests include the epidemiology and prevention of Clostridium difficile disease, antimicrobial resistance, and antimicrobial distribution and kinetics.  Presentation Topic: "The use of non-toxigenic C. difficile for the prevention and treatment of the C. difficile disease."

Professor Adam Driks, PhD., Professor, Brandeis University and Lyola University. Molecular Microbiologist; Bacterial spores can survive even the most extreme environments.  We study the composition and assembly of spore structures responsible for their unusual durability in B. anthracis, B. subtilis,     C. difficile, and other species. This work allows us to address serveral science issues and our studies allow us to contribute to a variety of efforts in the development of novel spore detection, and decontamination methods, as well as vaccines.
