Mission Education Training Program: Going Forth in Joy to Share the Good news of God's Love

Mission is our baptismal call to share God's love. As Pope Francis says, we do this
“above all” with “the poor and the sick, those who are usually despised and overlooked” (Evangelii Gaudium, 48). Catholic educators play a special role in helping students and school communities experience the joy of participating in God’s mission of love.

We are excited to offer a Mission Education Training Program for teachers and administrators. This professional development program is designed to form teachers as mission educators, blending faith formation, practical classroom/school application, and resources. Educators in the Archdiocese of Seattle will receive clock hours for participation.

Program Goals:

  • Identify as a missionary in their personal/ministerial/communal identity by virtue of their baptism.
  • Engage in Scripture as the the Master Story of God's Mission and its relevance to teachers as Mission Educators and students as missionary disciples.
  • Encounter the Church as missionary and reflect on the nature of an evangelizing community, and how schools are such communities.
  • Grow in a spirituality grounded in mission and global solidarity, and guided by Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Develop skills and strategies to strengthen missionary spirit in school community.
Four 2-3 hour sessions over the course of two days at the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Seattle.  Morning prayer begins at 8:30am (optional).  Lunch is included.

Session 1:  God's Mission of Love - Laying the Foundation for Missionary Discipleship

Session 2:  The Master Story of Mission: Finding Ourselves in Sacred Scripture

Session 3:  The Mission Continues - Frameworks for Developing Evangelizing Communities

Session 4:  Going Forth in Joy to Share the Good News - Developing a Mission Strategy

Each participant will receive a Mission Resource Kit, including the book, "What is the Mission of the Church?," sample posters and study guides, DVDs and more.

A donation of $60 is suggested to cover the costs of food and materials, but we understand the financial constraints on those working for the Church and we are happy to host you as our gift if you are unable to make a donation.

Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are “disciples” and “missionaries”, but rather that we are always “missionary disciples”.

 Evangelii Gaudium 120
