Cityhood Public Forum

Over the last several years there has been a growing movement in Metro Atlanta to form new cities in unincorporated areas. This movement reached a peak during the last session of the Georgia General Assembly with three proposals coming from North Central DeKalb County. Those proposals included Tucker, Lakeside and Briarcliff, with Lakeside and Briarcliff overlapping in many geographic areas. The proposals were very different in which services each proposed city would provide its residents. Ultimately, these efforts failed at the end of the legislative session for varying reasons.

The City of Briarcliff Initiative (COBI) proposal would have had the most direct effect on Woodland Hills and LaVista Park, two of LLCC’s member neighborhoods.

In recent days we have learned that leaders of movements to create cities of Briarcliff and Lakeside announced an alliance that could result in a proposal for a combined city.

To help keep our residents informed, LLCC is joining with the Woodland Hills Neighborhood Association and the LaVista Park Civic Association to sponsor a public forum to gain insight into these new efforts. We have invited the COBI-Lakeside Leadership Team to make a short presentation on the history of the cityhood movement for people who have not previously attended such a forum. We have also asked them to share with us their updated plans going into this year’s legislative session, espeically in light of their new alliance.

Following these two presentations, we will open the floor to a Question & Answer period during which you will have to opportunity to direct your questions to the COBI team.

While this forum is specifically geared to residents of Woodland Hills and LaVista Park, it is free and open to the public. However, in order to have the room properly prepared for your comfort, we are asking that you REGISTER for the event. Please us the Register Now link below.
