2014 Our Children Our Future Policy Symposium: September 9 & 10 

The Our Children, Our Future Symposium is a two-day event where West Virginia citizens come together with policy advocates and lawmakers to discuss the issues that matter most to kids and families. On Day 1 (September 9), we will have 24 workshops and panel discussions on different issues, so folks can get educated and activated. On Day 2 (September 10), we will present these policy ideas to a joint meeting of the House and Senate and also host trainings for how we can engage more leaders and voters in our own towns and counties.

In the past two years we have had 12 policy wins including:

• Restored funding cuts to FRNs and in-home visiting programs
• Increased the minimum wage by $1.50/hr
• Increased physical activity in schools by 30 minutes/day
• Ended workplace discrimination against pregnant women
• Piloted a parent mentor program
• Created the West Virginia Future Fund
• Created a new tool to mitigate abandoned and dilapidated properties through Land Reuse Agencies
