Join Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana for a gala evening for women of all generations, October 2, 2014, at 6 p.m. Entertainment includes music, a Juliette Gordon Low vignette, and readings from the first volume of the Pearls book.

Though Girl Scouts is now recognized as the premiere leadership development program for young women, Juliette Gordon Low's vision for girls in 1912 was radical. Eight years before women earned the right to vote, she saw the need for a leadership program for young women and founded Girl Scouts of the USA. When the program was struggling, Low sold a set of heirloom pearls to ensure her vision would succeed.

Pearls honors Low's "pearls," both the sale of her prized possession and the wisdom she shared with young women. Today there are more than 3.2 million Girl Scouts in the USA and overseas and over 59 million alumnae.

Proceeds benefit the Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana in its mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
