MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

What we say (and don’t) when we cover Israel

With the recent crisis in Israel, we’re reading more media coverage each day.

Who decides what’s being written and why do they make the choices they do, impacting how we think, feel and understand Israel?

Join us for this important event with media experts who cover Israel and Diaspora affairs.

Reading JJ Goldberg means that you’re getting a sane, detailed and reported look at what's happening in Israel-Palestine. He'll give you a deeper grasp of what's happening, who the players are, both within Israel and amongst the different players in region. The long-time Editor-In-Chief of the Forward, Goldberg is currently their Editor-at-Large and erudite blogger.

Lisa Goldman is the director of the Israel-Palestine Initiative at the New America Foundation. She is a co-founder and contributing editor to +972, the Tel Aviv-based progressive magazine that is published in English. She has reported on events such as Israel's 2005 withdrawal from Gaza, the 2006 war with Hezbollah and Egypt's 2011 uprising.

Expertly covering Jewish news, culture and music for decades, Michael Regenstreif has been at the helm of the Ottawa Jewish Bulletin as its Editor for 6 years. He has written extensively for the Montreal Gazette and Canadian Jewish News among other major media outlets.

Joseph Rosen has deftly opened the conversation about why it is so difficult to talk about Israel in Canada in his seminal article “The Israel Taboo” recently published in The Walrus Magazine in Canada. In his writing, Rosen has focused on the ways that cultural memory and historical trauma effect ongoing politics.
