Bridging Continents, Bridging the River:  Norwegian-American Engineers and the Mississippi Gorge in the Twin Cities

Join the MInnesota Society of Architectural Historians and the Norwegian-American Historical Association in a joint event as we explore the connection between Norway and America through the iconic bridges of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

More Event Details

Norwegian born engineers and architects made significant contributions to Mississippi river profile in the Twin Cities.  We'll explore the lives and careers of these talented individuals, while viewing the legacy of their life work.  A picnic lunch will be provided midway through the tour.

The tour will go on rain or shine, so be prepared for whatever the weather might bring us that day.  A significant portion of the tour will be on foot and will involve climbing stairs and walking on uneven, unpaved and grassy surfaces. Participants will be asked to sign a waiver of liability before starting the tour.  A coach bus will transport us between sites.

The tour size is limited to provide a quality experience for all participants.  Experts from the transportation and historical preservation community will provide commentary on the historical signficance of these iconic bridges as we explore the waterfront.
