This symposium is a knowledge-based offering designed for nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and other health professionals involved in the education and care of people with diabetes.

To successfully complete the program and receive credit, participants must pay the required fee, attend the entire program, and complete the evaluation form.

The “Kentucky Statewide Diabetes Symposium 2014” (2014-052) has been approved by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) for 6.0 hours of continuing education credit as follows:

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the American Association of  Diabetes Educators, and accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s  Commission on Accreditation. This program, 2014-052 is approved for 6.0 contact hours.

 

 The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AM001) is a Continuing Professional
 Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
 Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs), will receive 6.0
 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing
 Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a  provider, program, or materials.

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for 
Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program provides
6.0 contact hours (.6 CEU’s) of continuing education credit. ACPE Universal Program Number:
0069-0000-14-153-L01-P

Effective Date: November 7, 2014 to November 7, 2015

Certified Diabetes Educators: To satisfy the requirements for renewal of certification for the National
Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related
and approved by a provider on the NCBDE list of Approved Providers (
www.ncbde.org). NCBDE does not
approve continuing education. The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) is on the NCBDE
list of Approved Providers.

AADE approval of programs or materials does not constitute endorsement of a provider, program, or material.
In addition, approval of this educational offering by AADE does not imply endorsement of specific therapies,
treatments, or products discussed in the presentations.  Continuing Education (CE) Statements of Credit
will be available at the end of the conference for those who meet the requirements.

OBJECTIVES

This symposium will enable participants to: 

    1. List four diabetes nutrition therapies including areas of controversy related to macronutrient intake.     
    2. Describe recently released diabetes medications including indications for usage as well as diabetes         research breakthroughs and what types of therapies may be on the horizon.   
    3. Describe ways to influence the connection between the mind, the body, and behaviors as well as             emotions to promote positive behavioral outcomes.   
    4. Discuss four hot topics in diabetes including the role of a diabetes educator regarding: diabetes educator licensure, delegation of diabetes care in schools, the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP), and Health Information Exchanges.     
    5. Discuss the newest findings related to diabetes and brain health.
