Join us at Renaissance, and learn from fashion business owners and other entrepreneurs what it takes to be successful in the fashion industry.

 

You can attend all classes individually or pay for the whole series in advance.


  •  1. Introduction To Starting Your Own Fashion Business

When: October 1st, 2014 from 6pm - 9pm

Cost: $ 20

Presenter: Petra Ostermuenchner, Fashion Entrepreneur and Renaissance Programs Coordinator

In this workshop you will learn how to define your target market, refine your vision and mission statement as well as explore various avenues to research the feasability of your business. You will also receive a business start-up checklist which entails all information needed to launch your fashion business.

  • 2. Fashion Prototyping

When: October 15th, 2014 from 6pm - 9pm

Cost: $ 20

Presenter: Eloisa Serrano from Bay Thread

Meet Eloisa Serrano, a Renaissance Graduate and local fashion manufacturer. Learn what to be aware of when choosing a manufacturer, and how to conduct business when getting your sketches or samples ready for production. Eloisa will teach you how to avoid big mistakes common designers make in their early stages, and tell you all about  the process of apparel pattern making, grading and manufacturing.

  • 3. Fashion Pricing

When: October 22nd, from 6pm - 9pm

Cost: $ 20

Presenter: Shivani Ganguly, Renaissance Finance Instructor & Entrepreneur

In this workshop you will learn to to identify your unique selling point, set your clothing prices, create a break-even analyis and estimate research costs as well explore funding options. Bringing your own laptop which includes Excel is advised. Renaissance will also provide laptops if needed. Please contact us if you don't have a laptop at petrao@rencenter.org

  • 4. SFMade's Workshop / How to Manufacture Locally for Apparel and Sewn Products.

When: October 29th, 2014 from 6p - 8pm

Where: At Renaissance at 275 5th Street, SF, CA 94103

If you are planning to produce apparel or sewn products, this session is for you! In an interactive and supportive environment, you’ll learn how to set-up and manage your own manufacturing operation or use contract manufacturers.

We will cover key considerations including:

• Assessing your needs and what makes the most sense for your particular business

• Information and referrals to local factories and manufacturing resources

• Acquiring facilities and where to look

• Zoning and Permitting Issues

• Obtaining financing

• Addressing legal issues and documentation requirements

• Overcoming specific roadblocks and challenges

• Making valuable connections with your local manufacturing community
