Topic: Innovative and Practical Approaches to Analyze Road Safety

Description: Globally more than 100,000 people are killed or injured in traffic
crashes each day.   In Georgia, traffic crashes also negatively
impact the state’s economy by reducing the state’s GDP by about 2%.
Public agencies are proactively addressing this significant public health issue
through the programs and projects being implemented as part of the Georgia
Strategic Highway Safety Plan.  Over the past several years a variety of
new and innovative methods have been developed to more effectively identify and
analyze safety roadway safety issues.  This presentation will summarize
several of these approaches and specifically how they can be practically
applied.  These approaches include the AASHTO Highway Safety Manual and
the United States Road Assessment Program.

Jeffrey Bagdade is a Project Director with Atkins North America’s
ITS/Traffic group.  Based in Michigan, he specializes in road safety and
traffic engineering and leads projects across the globe.  He is a Council
Member of the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and many
other state, national and international traffic safety committees.
