History: 

The Buttimer Dinner is the premiere service recognition and fundraiser for the local Democratic party, through the Chatham County Democratic Committee (CCDC). The event is a plated dinner, this year at the Hyatt Regency Savannah, Regency Ballroom. The focus of the event is the awards given to three recipients and the keynote address given by a notable democrat. The dinner, established in 1987, is named after Patrick "Toby" Buttimer: a patriarch of Savannah's Irish Catholic community, Grand Marshall of Savannah's St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1949, and longtime Chair of the CCDC.  Toby dedicated 70 years of his life to the goals and candidates of the Democratic Party.  It is in that sprit, the committee continues to honor exceptional Democrats, for their outstanding work in the community.
