Hot Stone Massage for Professionals

Program Description

  • Demonstrate a variation of stone placement, stone shapes and sizes
  • Various techniques and their effects on the body; effleurage, light friction, lymphatic drainage and tracing
  • Proper sanitation and re-charging of the stones
  • Hands-on movements to the entire back, hands, arms, feet, legs, décolleté and face
  • How to incorporate the use of warm and cool stones into your facial treatment
  • Aid in decongestion and deeper muscle penetration
  • Proper stone extraction techniques and review

Format
The program content will be presented in both lecture and laboratory format.

Outline

  • The history and various styles of hot stone massage 
  • Gain an in depth understanding of hot stone massage and how to successfully incorporate this modality safely and effectively into your practice 
  • Discuss the therapeutic benefits and contraindications of hot stone massage 
  • Learn the importance of proper stone sizing, stone classification and equipment selection 
  • Demonstrate safe use and temperature variance of the stone heating oven, cooling water, safety guidelines, proper draping 
  • Describe the relationship between working and placement stones 
  • Hot stone management: Seamless Fluidity while working 
  • Body Mechanics: Hot Stones as an extension of your hands 
  • Hands-on lab participation/practical applications

What You Should Bring

  • Required Supplies: Please bring a set of linens, 4 large bath towels
  • Attire: Comfortable/loose fitting clothing

 *Short nails are also encouraged  

What We Will Provide

  • Massage tables and bolsters
  • Basalt Stones and Heating Ovens that will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the course
