Trail Running at the Hoosier Outdoor Experience

Hoosier Outdoor Experience -  The event is Indiana’s largest, hands-on outdoor recreation event. Hosted on the grounds of Fort Harrison State Park, the free event features more than 50 activities and 120 grassroots partners. ITR will be part of the Outdoor Recreation Activity Area. The whole 1700 acre property rocks with about 35,000 event visitors that weekend.

Please keep in mind we are sharing Trail Running in Indiana and not Indiana Trail Running as a club or company.    Everyone can participate.   We will be right beside the hiking, wilderness, road and mountain bike groups.  If you are outside of Indianapolis and have never attended this is a great way to participate and also volunteer for a few hours.  You don't have to live in Indy to be part of the fun!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The dates are September 20th - 21st from 10am - 6pm.

Please sign up by registering online.

We need the following volunteers (you can sign up for more than one time slot):

  • Volunteer at tent from 10 - 2 Saturday (2 people)
  • Run Leaders for Saturday 10 - 2  (2-3 people)
  •  Stretch Leaders for Saturday 10 - 2  (1-2 people)
  • Volunteer at tent from 2 - 6 Saturday (2 people)
  • Run Leaders for Saturday 2 - 6  (2-3 people)
  • Stretch Leaders for Saturday 2 - 6  (1-2 people)
  • Volunteer at tent from 10 - 2  Sunday (2 people)
  • Run Leaders for Sunday 10 - 2  (2-3 people)
  • Stretch leaders for Sunday 10 - 2 (1-2 people)
  • Volunteer at tent from 2 - 6  Sunday (2 people)
  • Run Leaders for Sunday 2 - 6  (2-3 people)
  • Stretch leaders for Sunday 2 - 6 (1-2 people)
  • Clean up Sunday (2-3 people)

(It is a first come basis so once we fill up a position we will let you know and give you other selections).

Our current plan is the following for both days:

If you volunteer to hang out at the tent.   We ask that you bring all your normal trail running clothing and gear.  The best way to show it off to is to wear it and demonstrate it.  We will also be asking everyone to bring examples of a few items such as hydration/nutrition or the different pairs of shoes or clothing that you wear.  This way we will have a different sampling of products and inventory along the way.  Everyone will take their gear when the shift is over.

A guided trail run at the bottom of each hour starting at 10:30.  We will have a small 1/2 to one mile run starting with a warm-up, the run, and a small cool-down.

We are also having stretching for runner's at the top of each hour starting at 11:00am.  We will have 2 instructors completing each routine. This way one can lead and the other can help make sure people are doing them correctly.

We ask that you also wear your ITR shirt if you have one.   People can identify the helpers by the logo.

We may have a few other interesting games or options come up but this is the current plan.

It's about spreading the word on Trail Running in Indiana.
