The arts are a powerful tool for supporting developmental progress, strengthening behavioral and social skills, fostering self-esteem and enhancing feelings of well being in every kind of learner. This workshop will provide information about accommodations that will help ensure successful participation in creative activities for children and young people with all abilities and different learning needs. The information shared will be useful not only for parents but for anybody working with students with special needs - teachers, paraprofessionals, after-school staff and all those involved in community programming.  Workshop material can be applied right away in different settings, home, school or a community venue.  Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and provide examples of successes and challenges from their own experiences.

The sessions will be facilitated by Deborah Stuart of VSA New Hampshire.

Deborah Stuart has spent decades working with children and their teachers around the world. She serves as a national consultant and trainer in the field of arts and learning, and is the author of Start with the Arts, which links children’s literature and the arts as early learning tools. She is the 2014 recipient of the national VSA Ginny Miller Award for Mentorship, recognizing an individual who has provided outstanding help and guidance to colleagues around the country.
