James and Catherine Emmi
James Emmi turned 98 years young this year and together with his wife, Catherine, the long-time Corona Del Mar residents have pledged and are making a significant difference in the Orange County community. Recently, a $12+ million gift to Chapman University was followed by a $2+ million gift to the Pacific Symphony. This summer they also made a $1 million gift to Hoag Hospital. It’s all part of the Emmi’s legacy in Orange County. For more than 50 years, the couple has supported, contributed, and worked for countless causes. As a former teacher, Catherine has been actively involved with childhood health, education, and welfare. For their generosity, love of people, and their community, SPIN is proud to honor James and Catherine Emmi as one of our “Heroes Behind the Mask” for 2014.

Julia and George Argyros – The Argyros Family Foundation
One of the most generous, charitable family foundations in Orange County, the Argyros’ influence has impacted every corner of life in the community. A long history of significant financial support for the Sergerstrom Center for the Arts, South Coast Repertory Theatre, Chapman University, Hoag Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and countless individual causes, including SPIN, demonstrate the depth and breadth of their charitable contributions to the Orange County community at every level. SPIN is pleased to acknowledge and unmask Julia and George Argyros and the The Argyros Family Foundation as heroes in our community.

Committed to giving people a hand-up, not a hand-out, SPIN is a non-profit organization addressing the needs of Orange County's families and individuals in crisis. With 92% of
clients becoming self-sufficient and independent of all public support, SPIN is known for
quality programming and outstanding success rates.
