Mastering Facilitation Series - Keeping Sessions Lively: Webinar (12/09/14)

Mastering Facilitation Series

NEFLIN is offering three online, highly interactive classes designed to improve your skills when leading online meetings, webinars, and events. These classes are for those with experience using online meeting technology, but wanting to create a meeting experience where attendees are actively engaged and learning is the focus. The three classes may be taken individually as stand-alone classes, or as a series. One “master” session is also provided for interested attendees to practice their skills and receive individualized coaching from the instructor.

Facilitation: Keeping Live Sessions Lively

Topics to be addressed:

  • Creating an environment conducive to great facilitation
  • Engagement: facilitation vs. lecturing
  • Improvisation that meets participants’ needs
  • Back-up plans: when technology lets us down
  • Next steps

Goals:
Participants will be able to:

  1. Explain what successful facilitators do to create a welcoming online environment for meetings and webinars
  2. Cite three techniques used to foster engagement in online meetings and webinars
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with at least three ways to recover from tech failures during online meetings and webinars
  4. Cite at least two ideas they will immediately apply to their own online meetings and webinars

Virtual Trainer: Paul Signorelli

Paul Signorelli has more than 20 years of experience in workplace learning and performance programs and projects for libraries, health care organizations, and national nonprofit membership organizations. As Director of Staff Training (six years) and Volunteer Services (14 years) for the San Francisco Public Library, he created, implemented, and managed numerous training plans. He has authored many articles and was co-author of the recent book Workplace Learning & Leadership, a staff training guide co-written with Lori Reed for ALA Editions to highlight examples of trainers as successful leaders within their organizations (April 2011). He continues to develop curriculum which responds to learners’ needs; designs and facilitates face-to-face and online learning opportunities; and remains involved in projects to successfully and creatively introduce new technology into organizations to the benefit of his clients and their customers.
