As of 2012, mental health professionals and others licensed in the State of Washington* are required to complete up to six hours of training in suicide assessment, treatment, and management based on the Matt Adler Suicide Assessment, Treatment & Management Act.

Developed and taught by experienced practitioners, this six-hour, lecture- and video-based educational workshop is designed for those who address suicide in diverse clinical settings from emergency assessment to long-term psychotherapy. Topics include:

• Managing personal responses
• Establishing a therapeutic alliance
• Creating a framework for conceptualizing suicide
• Conducting and documenting a risk assessment
• Crisis planning and ongoing monitoring
• Treatment planning
• Long-term work with suicidal clients 
• Responding to completed suicide
