Interfaith Day of Remembrance

You're invited to participate in an Interfaith Day of Remembrance on Wednesday, October 1.

This statewide event will mark the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) 2014 with Rhode Island's faith community standing together in remembrance of the 10 individuals who lost their lives as a result of domestic violence in RI last year and praying for those who are currently being impacted by domestic violence.

Here are some ways to participate in the Interfaith Day of Remembrance:

  • Acknowledge the 10 lives lost in 2013 by ringing the bell(s) or blowing the shofar 10 times;
  • Make Du’a in remembrance of the 10 lives lost in 2013 and those still experiencing domestic violence;
  • Recognize through personal prayer the 10 lives lost as well as those currently being impacted;
  • Hold a moment of silence;
  • Light a candle;
  • Offer a prayer during service.

Communities of faith can play a vital role in the prevention of domestic violence by providing strength, support and comfort to those affected by abuse and by creating an environment that does not tolerate it. We thank you for getting involved this DVAM and throughout the year.

Institutions of all faiths are welcome to participate. The statewide event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., but we encourage participation any time on October 1.

Together we can end domestic violence.
