Hydro-Quebec IREQ

Montreal, Quebec and Kingston, Ontario
October 15-17, 2014

MEMBERS' MEETING AND TOUR
NAATBatt is pleased to announce its first international meeting:  A tour of the energy storage laboratory at Hydro-Quebec's research institute, IREQ, followed by a tour of Grafoid’s MesoGraf™ research and development laboratories, graphene material testing, engineering and product development facility in Kingston, Ontario.

All in-country transportation will be provided by Grafoid and Focus Graphite, beginning on the morning of Wednesday, October 15 at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth hotel in Montreal, Canada.

The meeting will start with a tour of IREQ's energy storage laboratory, one of the most famous battery research facilities in the world.  The laboratory supports Hydro-Quebec’s technological advances in the area of battery materials, as well as Hydro-Québec’s goals to contribute to land transportation electrification. The laboratory includes a dry room dedicated to lithium-ion battery assembly and a nanotechnology room where the various operations required to create and use nanometer-sized powders are performed.

The following day attendees will tour Grafoid’s  newly-openned MesoGraf™ research and development laboratories, graphene material testing, engineering and product development facility located in the one-of-a-kind, 225,000 square foot Innovation Park technology centre in Kingston, Ontario.  Grafoid’s mission is to become a dominant global player in investing graphene-related material and product development in a broad range of sectors including, but not limited to: applications for next generation graphene lithium batteries; additive materials for 3D printing; biomedicine; water purification and oil spill remediation; polymers and composite materials; fibre science; coatings and lubricants; thermal management solutions; low-loss wiring and cabling; EMI/RFI/EMP shielding; fire retardants and protective clothing; solar, and; a number of military and security applications now under development.  The tour and related presentations will provide attendees with a first look at a revolutionary advance in materials science.

Following the tour attendees will, courtesy of Grafoid and Focus Graphite, be treated to dinner and a tour of the famous Fort Henry (of War of 1812 fame) outside Kingston.  Time and weather permitting, attendees will also enjoy a boat tour of Thousand Islands on Lake Ontario at the source of the St. Lawrence River.

On the morning of Friday, October 17, attendees will be returned from Kingston to Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport by bus in time to catch early afternoon flights.
