The Parent Network of the Capital

Region Announces:

 Common Core and  Students with

Disabilities

 Presented by - Kate Gerson,

Senior Fellow for Educator Engagement and The Common Core

Our guest presenter, Kate Gerson will discuss Common Core, what it is asking of all students and the ways in which we can support students with disabilities.  She will talk about the shifts in instruction demanded by the standards.  When educators teach to these shifts, students are able to master number sense, the analysis of complex texts, and the ability to develop solid arguments and informational essays.

Kate Gerson is currently serving as the Senior Fellow for Educator Engagement and The Common Core with the Regents Research Fund.

She  has a background as an English teacher and school  administrator. Kate has consulted nationally on quality  instruction with a focus on teaching and learning at all levels in  the system. Kate holds a B.A. in Women's Studies from the  University of Arizona and a M.A. in Language Education from Indiana University.
