70th Anniversary of the
Initial Start of Hanford's B Reactor National Historic Landmark

The U.S. Department of Energy's Richland Operations Office, the B Reactor Museum Association and the Hanford History Partnership are proud to announce an event to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of a transformative moment in American History: The initial start of the Hanford B Reactor, the world's first full scale plutonium production reactor.   After 11 frenzied months of top-secret work as part of the Manhattan Project, on September 26, 1944, the B Reactor's control rods were pulled out and the atomic age was ushered in.

On September 26, 2014, join us, as we go back to the place where it all happened for a special evening of local food and wine, of music and memories, of tours and tributes, and a reflection on how far we've come in the work to preserve the B Reactor National Historic Landmark's compelling story for future generations.
