Therapeutic Approaches to Clients with Trauma Related Symptoms and Substance Abuse
As the war in Iraq and Afghanistan comes to a close, there are an increasing number of OEF/OIF (Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom) veterans returning to Southern California. This workshop provides a great opportunity for Clinical Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists who work with veterans and military family members gain an inside view of specific clinical factors as well as clinical practices for assessing, engaging and treating OEF/OIF Combat Veterans. Please join us on the following dates and times for FREE 1-hour Continuing Education Credits and learn valuable information about working with military veterans and their families.
This is a 12 Month CEU Series, with pre-set dates and topics (see below). Come to all or choose the topics that best interest you! Seats are LIMITED to only 25 attendees per event so please register early to save your spot!! Registration for each event will open up individually, on the next business day after each event. At the conclusion of each training, attendees will receive a certificate for one (1) hour CEU approved by the California Board of Behavioral Science.

We are pleased to have Valvincent Reyes, LCSW, BCD, LTC, AUS (Ret.) presenting on all topics throughout the year.
Lt. Col. Reyes served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. He served his country with honor and distinction as a clinical social worker in Afghanistan providing front line behavioral health prevention, treatment and stress control to soldiers and Afghan civilians. Lt. Col. Reyes also worked with U.S. soldiers who were sexual assault survivors while in the military and served as a senior social work officer in the US Army working to install the first-ever PTSD outpatient treatment program. After the devastating Fort Hood Shootings in 2009, Lt. Col. Reyes worked as the senior social work officer in charge providing psychosocial assessments and screenings on service members and civilian survivors. Upon retirement from the U.S. Army, Lt. Col. Reyes was a clinical assistant professor at USC where he helped develop the military social work concentration at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Social Work. Lt. Col. Reyes also has 23 years of experience as a parole agent specializing in parole mental health program development and street gang interventions, while also having seven years of experience as a psychiatric social worker in inpatient psychiatric settings. Lt. Col. Reyes was recently awarded the 2013 NASW California Chapter Social Worker of the Year as well as the 2013 NASW Military Social Worker of the Year. Lt. Col. Reyes received his MSW from UCLA and BA from California State University Dominguez Hills and is a Board Certified Diplomat in Clinical Social Work. Lt. Col Reyes is an accomplished public speaker and has published several articles on Military Social Work and PTSD.
