That Land Was My Family's Land: A Legal and Historical Struggle Against Nazi Crimes

For the past 23 years, Peter Sonnenthal '83 has been fighting in German courts for the restitution of property that belonged to his Jewish ancestors. At stake is prime real estate in the upscale Berlin suburb of Teltow worth millions of euros.

A former senior counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission and special assistant US attorney in the Southern District of New York, Sonnenthal moved to Germany in 2002 to focus on his case, a relentless clash of opinions over historical facts and interpretations. Sonnenthal's efforts have been profiled in a variety of national and international media outlets, including The Washington Post.
