The Once and Future Church
Christian Formation for a Changing Church
Wondering how to inspire faith in your community?
Open to new ways to share faith that incorporate popular culture?
Want to keep church relevant in the 21st Century?
You won't want to miss this EXCEPTIONAL workshop!
Lisa Kimball and Patricia Lyons are
offering two ways to participate (1-night
or 2-night options) in an interactive experience. Weaving popular culture and faith formation, they will help us explore how Christians are part of an epic story that takes seriously the world in which we live and connects God's Story with our own. Participants will leave with practical tools for Christian formation in a changing church.
Patricia Lyons (systematic theologian,
high school religion and ethics teacher,
service learning coordinator) and Lisa
Kimball (youth missioner, congregational
developer, seminary professor) creatively
blend their personal and professional
experiences to help us explore the
landscape of being church today. Their humor-filled blending of theology, game theory, and Harry Potter will open our imagination as they identify the 21st century challenges and opportunities of being Christian and forming Christians. With equal parts evangelism, faith formation, and ministry development, they show how Christian formation is at the heart of Christian mission and offer practical tips for life-long and life-wide formation and discipleship.
This two-day workshop is a regional version of their well-received 2014 Forma keynote. It is designed for people passionate about sharing faith, seeing hope for the church, and imagining future possibilities together. Christian Educators, Faith Formation Leaders, Ministry Re/developers and Congregational Developers will want to participate.
There are two options for participation. The full workshop begins with dinner at Barbara C Harris Camp and Conference Center on Thursday, December 11 and concludes about 3 pm on Saturday, December 13. Your lodging and meal cost is $140 for a shared adult cabin (4 per building). For those who can only get away one night, you can join us for dinner at 6 pm on Friday for half the cost.
We have attempted to keep the cost for this offering low. All conference costs are being paid by a Province 1 Sowing Seeds of God's Mission Grant. Still, our goal is to eliminate obstacles to participation. If you or your community can help offset costs for someone else to participate, please consider a donation. If you need help, please contact Julie Lytle, executive.director@province1.org, about the potential for a partial scholarship.
